2005 Honda Odyssey Touring
When Honda introduced its second-generation Odyssey minivan in 1999, was an immediate success. Powerful, comfortable and spacious is light years ahead of its previous base agreement, and the company routinely sold every one comes from its plant in Alliston, Ontario.
But all things must change, and in late 2004, Honda brought out a new Odyssey revised for 2005 model year. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, had gone up in the market, but anything drastic. According to Honda Yutaka Fujiwara, who was project manager at the time, the company wanted to throw the Odyssey "soccer mom" image and transform a "first adventure vehicle." To cite Fujiwara, the new Odyssey had an interior that "remembers the occupants of a first-class lounge."
One way to achieve makeover Honda's Odyssey was giving more power. The '05 version was powered by a modified 3.5-liter Honda V6 developed 255 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 250 lb.-ft. of torque at 5000 rpm. This was 15 more horsepower than the previous model and the engine was mated to a transmission date five-speed automatic. Honda's designers also moved the shifter to the steering column to the dashboard.
What is really interesting about the new power plant was the introduction of Honda's Variable Cylinder Management system, or VCM. In short, this agreement the bank closes for the rear cylinder driving conditions - highway cruising, for example - and as a result, the Odyssey gave significantly better fuel economy than its predecessor. The operation was virtually seamless, and returned 12.0 km L/100 in the city and a frugal 7.7 l/100 km highway. Also fit '05 Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards.
Combining VCM function with the patented VTEC system Honda variable valve management, and had an engine that seemed to do the impossible: the competitive fuel economy, low emissions, and leading performance, all at the same time. The function VCM does not come with the base model LX, however, it was a standard feature in high-level EX.
But there was something more here than a Luxury propulsion system. The new Odyssey was a slightly redesigned body and comes with all sorts of interesting little features, including a refined version Honda apparatus of the third row seat that disappears into the ground, a second-row seat that slides sideways to facilitate access, a removable second center console of the line, a convex "conversational" mirror that lets you keep eye contact with the rear seat passengers, and my personal favorite, a storage on the floor with a card Lazy Susan rotating tray that can be accessed from the front and second row seats. Despite New Honda's marketing strategy, moms Odyssey loved even more.
Or damages Honda strengthened security side of things. With dual front airbags, side curtain airbags three rows of seats, redesigned front, rear and side-impact areas and a rollover sensor that deploys the airbag if the vehicle turns turtle, the new Odyssey led the group of occupant safety. Needless to say, anti-lock brakes are standard, as well as a program of assistance and vehicle stability systems traction control.
It comes in four trim levels - LX, EX, EX-L and Touring - the new Odyssey is loaded with luxury and convenience features optional. Depending on the model you choose, you may be asked things like power sliding side doors with an anti-pinch, a rear liftgate, pedals power-adjustable, rear view camera, leather interior, and, of course, a rear DVD entertainment system comes with wireless headphones and a screen will pop down to nine inches. Step up to the top of the line Touring model, which has a bi-lingual, DVD-based navigation system.
All these features were fine, not ask, but what has always separated the Odyssey of the rest of the pack is its performance. Although it now has more competitors ever, remains a favorite when it comes to reserve power and smooth acceleration and simple. It also comes with a level of refinement and quality construction remains the benchmark in this market segment.
2005 also marked the end of Alliston, Ontario as the place of origin of the Odyssey. Thereafter, they were - And are - manufactured at the Honda plant in Lincoln, Alabama.
Three safety recalls that the Transport Canada report. One is a relay fuel pump possibly defective, another has to do with a failure in the deployment of front air bag, and the third is a sensor of suspicion in the ABS control unit.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has the same points in their files, and two more: one refers to a set of column direction, possibly defective, and second, another fuel delivery system malfunction. According to NHTSA, however, these two mishaps involve a number relatively small vehicles: 203 and 1923, respectively. NHTSA also has 133 service bulletins '05 Odyssey, which covers almost all aspects of vehicle battery makeup. A lot of structural issues, often with side doors or faulty stubborn. However, consumers gave the Odyssey Reports 2005, his first in that year, over the Toyota Sienna, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Saturn Relay.
If you're in the market for a three year old Odyssey of age, to pay from about $ 22,000 to $ 30,000, depending on the level of finish and equipment. Given its base price of $ 32,700 in 2005, has maintained in their value too.
